Samsonite Chair History:
The Samsonite brand of commercial folding furniture is a line that many people are familiar with. Whether it's the chairs you rent from your local party supply, or the office chair you sit in every day. The Samsonite name is associated with quality commercial furniture products. What some may not be as familiar with is the fact that the Samsonite Corporation does not, and has not for a number of years, produced furniture. Instead, they license the use of the Samsonite name to various companies in various industries producing various widgets.
Back in the late 80's Samsonite spun off their furniture division and began the licensing process. Over the next decade or so, the license to produce Samsonite commercial folding furniture changed hands several times. Finally, in 2002, the last licensee to produce the Samsonite Commercial folding chairs in the USA, sold off their assets to Scholar Craft. Scholar Craft took possession of the plant, dies, molds, machinery, everything except the rights to use the name Samsonite.
To this day, Scholar Craft still produces many of the quality folding chairs originally developed and sold under the Samsonite name.
What this all means: - If you are looking to match old Samsonite chairs, the Scholar Craft line allows you to do this. Many colors and styles are available.
- Samsonite Commercial Furniture is no longer sold by any company. Scholar Craft instead markets the same original products, just under their name.
- If you are in need of quality chairs for rentals, churches, catering, or just extra seating, Scholar Craft is the way to go.
